- [H4] Japanische Touristen sind seit Jahrzehnten treue Gäste von Zermatt. Sie schätzen an den Walliser Alpen die hohen Berge und das einmalige Panorma. Einige unter ihnen kommen fast jedes Jahr wieder für Bergtouren und Skifahren und es sind Freundschaften entstanden. Dank Tsuyoshi Ueki und Amadé Perrig ist Anfang der 90er Jahre die Verschwisterung zwischen Myoko und Zermatt unterschrieben worden. Zur Unterstützung und Pflege der Freundschaften zwischen Myoko und Zermatt ist der Myoko Club gegründet worden.Der Myoko-Club Zermatt fördert die Schüleraustausche und organisiert und betreut die privaten Treffen mit Gästen aus Myoko und Kyoto.

Der Mount Myoko mit Madarao, Kurohime, Togakushi und Iizuna zum Hokushingogaku Massiv gehörend, trennt die Provinzen Nagano und Niigata. Der Mount Myoko 2454m zählt zu den hundert bekanntesten Bergen Japans. Myokokogen ist bekannt für sein Skigebiet, welches in den 30er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts entstanden ist. In der Skiregion Myoko Suginohora befindet sich die längste Skipiste Japans. Mit seiner Nähe zum japanischen Meer und der allgemein hohen Luftfeuchtigkeit in Japan, fallen in Myoko jeden Winter mind. 2-3 Meter Schnee. Das japanische Meer ist ca. 30 km entfernt, bei der Stadt Joetsu mit dem sehenswerten Meeresaquarium. Myoko ist ein beliebter Erholungsort im Sommer für die Bewohner der heissen und feuchten Städte Japans, auch für die kaiserliche Familie. In Myoko gibt es drei Golfplätze und den schönen Nojiri See. Myokokogen ist ebenfalls berühmt für seine sieben Onsen / Hotsprings. Mr. Okayama Koichiro war Bürgermeister von Myokokogen bis zur Fusion im Jahre 2005, mit 6200 Einwohnern und einer Fläche von 128 km2. Am 1. April 2005 fusionierten die Gemeinden Myokokogen Cho, Myoko Mura und die Stadt Arai Shi und es wurde die Stadt Myoko/ Myoko City gegründet. Der Name der neuen Stadt kommt nur indirekt vom Dorf Myoko, er bezieht sich vielmehr auf den die Region überragenden Mount Myoko. Der Bürgermeister von Myoko City ist Mr. Nyumura Akira, die neue Stadt hat 36‘700 Einwohner und eine Fläche von 445.25 km2.
